MOYAMBA DISTRICT — The United Methodist Development Office (UMDO) has successfully completed a targeted capacity-building workshop for 40 local educators and School Management Committee (SMC) members across 10 project communities in the Fakunya Chiefdom, Moyamba District.
Supported by funding from Digni and UMC Norway, the initiative brought together 13 women and 27 men as part of the ongoing Strengthening Gender-Based Violence and Prevention project. The workshop aimed to strengthen local child protection frameworks and promote safer learning environments across the chiefdom.
Key Focus Areas of the Training:
* Teachers’ Code of Conduct: Reinforcing professional ethics and standards of accountability within the classroom.
* Safeguarding Practices: Establishing actionable protocols to ensure physical and emotional safety for all students.
* SRGBV Prevention: Deepening participant knowledge on identifying and preventing School-Related Gender-Based Violence.
* Reporting & Referral Mechanisms: Streamlining swift, safe, and confidential reporting pathways for GBV incidents within schools.
According to UMDO leadership, empowering the educators and community guardians who interact with students daily is the critical first step toward building systemic protection for children. This training marks a significant milestone in reinforcing institutional safeguards and fostering zero-tolerance environments for gender-based violence across rural Sierra Leonean schools.
